EASTLAKE CHAIR REPAIRED AND REUPHOLSTERED

This chair was manufactured in the 1870s and had serious damage throughout. The chair was filled with horsehair, which was beyond salvage and infested. The chair legs required fixes to the joinery, and the existing fabric was worn through.

The owner desired to retain the antique look, and requested  a new cushion, replacement of springs, and rose-colored gimp with antique brass decorative tacks.

The hinges holding the log on were removed, and the joints were taken apart and re-secured with new dowels. The improperly sized springs were removed, and the chair was restrung, with webbing placed on the bottom.

A heavy-duty fabric was used in keeping with the Eastlake style of the chair. The chair's finish was restored, while still keeping its old patina in the burled wood areas. The casters on the feet were retained.
