Original Door

Preparing to Repair and Refinish and Older Door

Door After Refinishing

Front Door after Refinishing

This oak door had been badly weathered from daily exposure to the sun, and no storm door protection. The wood had turned grey in spots, and the existing finish had turned yellow and was peeling. The original color of the door, in a medium brown, had faded, and a greenish hue had appeared.

Care was taken to protect the stained glass and surrounding area, before stripping the door in place. Urban Revivals coordinated with the client to assure that the resultant finish would work with their home's colors.

Detail of the Original DoorDamaged Finish on Older Door

In addition to restaining the door, and applying a spare polyurethane finish, Urban Revivals also made cosmetic repairs to the door. In places where the coloration was splotchy, we used selective dye pens and pigments to make the door's colors much more uniform. The original streaking of the colors had largely disappeared.
