VIEW OUR LATEST ENCAUSTIC TILE PROJECT

Our latest project: restoration of a 1916 condominium lobby with Maw Greek Revival tiles.

Lobby Area Tiles showing Before and After	ENCAUSTIC AND QUARRY TILES Caring for encaustic tile in heavily traveled areas demands a bit of compromise. Encaustic tile adds both beauty and value to your home. If you have this tile, please do not remove this historic artifact.  At the same time, it may be necessary to take non-traditional steps to protect these tiles from the ravages of time, while still allowing complete functionality for you and your home's visitors. Tiles shown were heavily damaged, at least 25% chipped or deeply cracked.   Should your tiles simply have chips or missing color spots, Urban Revivals can repair these areas using epoxy compounds and enamel colors. You won't even know that the tiles were damaged. If your encaustic tiles are severely cracked and subjected to water (such as wet shoes or boots), then we recommend a more serious protective measure. Specifically, we will repair the tiles with an epoxy compound, color match the damaged areas, reseat the tiles, and then seal them with an impervious polyurethane sealant for a hard protective clear barrier. This measure, while drastic and not in keeping with the matte look of these tiles, may be necessary in order to allow you to maintain the floor under normal use conditions. Lastly, if large sections of tiles are missing, Urban Revivals can create "faux encaustic tiles" that blend in with the real ones, by using pigments, and self-leveling concrete.
