Decoupage
has a long history in household design. For many centuries, paper
has been used for wall and object ornamentation. It is applied with
diluted pastes, may be oiled, and is commonly finished with coats of
clear varnish. Simple photocopies of your favorite drawings are a
wonderfully delightful and cheap form of decoupage. These designs are
normally placed at frieze height or dado level. Urban Revivals can also
apply cutouts from your favorite wallpapers or color photocopies.
Applied and then coated with a protective finish. A
varnish finish is required to preserve the color of your image. The
image may be applied to painted walls, bare wood, painted wood, plaster,
and very stiff leather. Black-and-white images may also be
"artificially colored" with watercolors or acrylic paints.
Typically a tinted or clear shellac or varnish is applied. A delicate
crackle lacquer can also be used.
